Lots of pics!

Oops, I'd better do a catch up!
I haven't been putting many pics on Twitter or Instagram at the moment, as I'm phone-less for now, so there's a few to catch up on here!

First from Australia Day. Or as Aussies like to say "Orr-stray-ya" Day!
We headed to my sis and hubby's for the christening of the new (2nd hand) BBQ.
It's name is Garth (printed on it, seriously!)

Oh, that's my BIL, despite the apro and curls- he still hasn't cut his hair after becoming shaggy man! The beard has gone, though, and my sis is devastated!

This kid is very happy her aunt and uncle are back!

People her own age to play with HAHA!

Their very funny cat Enzo had a great time playing in my sewing box.

We did a bit of sewing over the weekend; this included a sit and sew at the MMGQ on Friday night, where I only managed to take a photo of my food! Der!

Saturday was all about choosing scraps and teaching her raw edge applique!

The chenille bedspread was soaked for a few days in the bath, then washed and it came up pink! Not peach as I thought. It's a great fit, too!

And I have a large custom order for a few different things. So far....

a hat

2 cushions from a fave dress;

linen backs and I worked out the fold over the zip!

and some sweet vintage ones (with vintage zips, of course!)

That's probably enough for now!

Made in Blueberry?

So I started to sew it all together last night, couldn't work out at first what was wrong with this section (stand on your head if you aren't sure teehee). As it was a scrap/ from the stash quilt I didn't want to buy any fabric, so I have used 2 different types of white fabric- one was earmarked for another quilt, and one from the stash.

I think I love it now. Wasn't sure with all the peicing, was it balanced etc, but when I stand back, I'm happy, and that's all that matters, isn't it?

She was a pretty good helper with this one, my Little Miss, she wrote on all the pink post-it notes I use to keep track of the different sections! I was thinking of using this as a couch quilt, but as you can see by the size, it may need a bed!

I couldn't let this one go when I dropped into the oppy today to look for shirts for work. Chenille? Tick. Coloured pattern? tick. $10? Priceless!

It's huge, def in too good condition to cut up, another bed cover! I sure bowed down to the op shop God's for this one, I feel I've been waiting my whole life (ok, a few years) for one like this!

I had a visit with Nikki as well, and will show you what Auntie Wilma gave her when I get a chance!

Flea Market Finds

I'm joining in the week to show of this great find...
This is new chenille bedspread I picked up at Savers for .....$12.99! Anyone who hunts for chenille will know this is a bargain!
It had single on the tag, so I thought it may be good on the Little Miss's bed- excellent condition, it has been mended in one part, so was obviously loved! But it also fits quite nicely on my queen sized bed....

here may be some sharing happening....

Being creative

I missed my creative space again this week- my computer gets tired and has issues at night, it seems. Half posts lost, so I'll start again.
Ms Curlypops provided Little Miss and I with a great day yesterday, crafting, food, oppying and scooter rides (for the kids, of course!). We are known for our bargain hunting, and Werribee Salvo's did not let us down. I love it when you go in not wanting anything, or expecting anything, and...
this great dress (Gap, size 12, might be taken in for little one)

the trifecta. Double chenille bedspread that will actually make it to my bed (Spotlight brand!), yellow handmade tablecloth and cross stitch picture, that will become a bag.

I forgot to take a skirt I wanted to make into a Birtskag, but got some binding attached to my quilt, and some bag sewing done. I snatched up these great 'scraps', which were actually the start of a quilt Curlypops had begun, but like me with my bags, they'd been put aside. I see 2 little boys blankies in there....maybe for some twins.

Little Miss came away with some booty- TeddyBear lollies toy, Spongebob Squarepants toy from Hungry Jacks (shh!) and various craft things
.

Oh, and the bag? This one that seemed to take ages to start, but was so easy...once I unpicked the flap I sewed on backwards. Err, distracted.

More bag pics to follow, computer has been good tonight and I need to tuck it in for bed now.

Oppy finds

I have had two awesome vintage finds this last week, one that was actually from an op shop, the other off Ebay. I suppose Ebay isn't exactly the same as an op shop find, the latter being so spontaneous and the find usually unneccessary but essential at the same time.

The first is an amazing chenille bedspread. I became a huga fan of these about a year ago, knowing nothing about the 'shabby chic' phenomenon, just loving the texture and how they look in quilts etc. I raided my local op shops, after lots of looking on Ebay, one of the op shop ladies even went home and got some out of her shed to sell to me! I have a big pile I regularly cut from, and one has even become a top sheet on kiddie's bed, she loves it (purple). The best thing about most of mine is they have been under $5. This green swirly one, the fanciest I have found, was $3- ridiculous, considering I could cut it into 1,000 pieces and make 3 times as much. I don't even think I will cut it- it may make it onto my bed!

My second find is these self covering buttons. I bought a hair tye with a great little bauble- when I got home, I realised it was a self covered button! What a great find, a new craft item for me to make kiddy. I bought these square ones thinking how original they would be- $5, lo and behold, they are so vintage the cardboard is creased and they are preserved in plastic! I can't touch them, but at the same time want to make something amazing. I feel they would be a waste sitting in a drawer, and would love suggestion as to their use.

Looking forward to another find soon.......
