Party time!

Our little mate Jai turned 3 last week. Little Miss and I were invited (by him!) to his b'day
afternoon tea. We excitedly gave him his present....

he seemed happy with it ....

but refused, despite all tricks and bribes, to put it on. I think every adult did it, but not him!
Oh, well, when I'm not looking maybe.....(thanks Curlypops for the tutorial, excellent as usual!)

Party games included a game of quoits, eating lollies (and watching him fade into meltdown). Don't know why, but he didn't appreciate me singing 'It's my party and I'll cry if I want to'...)

Being adored by the older children!

Happy birthday Little Man!

Lucky girl

My Little Miss woke up to a surprise this morning- a late night of TV meant I finished off the slooowww craft, and turned it into a cushion (that was much quicker!). Don't look too close, I didn't wash it and there's a nice big grey pencil mark on it!

I backed it in rare red chenille, one of the harder ones to come by. This piece is a bit faded,
but I figure it'll be under the window, and fading looks good, I think- very vintage!
If you like the design, DMC have a few in that range, I'm thinking of getting the owl and love birds....because she needs more cross stitch cushions!

flannel flowers cushion is upside down!

And my poor slow cooker-a lovely piece of corned beef was nearly done, as I went to turn it (I know you are supposed to leave them, but I was going to bed, and wasn't sure if it should stay hot overnight) when I dropped the lid- onto the bench! Little bits of glass flew about- the corned beef was saved, and cut off all the outer bits in case of glass. Cam got half, she was confident I got it all!

I'm now on the lookout for a new lid. Anyone know where I can get one?

I've made something!

So I had a few nights of testing out the stitches, I went through the book and surprisingly understood a fair amount of it!
By tonight I decided I might as throw myself in and sew something, learn on the job sort of thing.
So I picked this tutorial and made this huge bag!

I wanted it to fit in my work bag, to put my work ID etc in, might halve it I think. But great for a going away cosmetic bag!
I used a fancy over lock stitch so I could use matching thread....
and was horrified how wonky my seams came out. Well, that will teach me to go 1,000 stitches a minute or so!

I'm in love with the thread cutter, the bobbin winder, the knee lifter (it will take me AGES to remember to use that one). I also had to lift it out of the Horn cabinet, it was a bit low for me and I have a Nanna's back at the moment!

Giving birth

Out with the old.....
In with the new

(No, def not as painful as giving birth, thought I'd take a leaf out of Jodie's book and confuse the blog searchers heehee. Though not as confusing as her post titled 'anal' must be )

Testing, testing.....

Ok, there is something weird going on with blogger, it's refused for 2 days now to let me post any pics of the quilts I finished for Cam.
So some pics of what I've been doing, actually, random shots to see if this post works!
baking cookies (and eating them);

playing tag with the Venus cat trap;

and funny notes again on the child's door. Oh, I knock or just come in and wait?
What good options!

Flea Market Finds

A little while ago I blogged about these
So I got a little bit excited at Savers the other day, as I turned from the checkout and saw this on their 'collectible' shelf.

The matching bread bin fits a loaf and the butter container, sweet!
See here for more finds (even though she's probably at Grease!)

Crafting, bonding...

A luver-ly weekend was had, despite the weather!!
A girl snuggled up with her new quilt;

reading me stories in the sewing room;

whilst I pieced and finished this quilt in a day! Well, a day and a half, I was asked to make it a week ago (that's what I'm telling myself, so I feel better for taking so long to do it. Don't want to think how long ago that was!)

I really love it, I was definitely waiting for the mojo to return! This one is quilt one for a pair of terrible 2's
Off to finish the 2nd one and can't wait to show you both of them!

Phew!

It's finished! months of...prep work, yeah, I'll call it that. For a final sewing frenzy and finished in a week!
This is me, after making the $%&%^&% bed (day beds look good, but they are a pain to make, believe me!)

And the best pic I could at night- fresh sheets, new quilt, happy girl child! She really wanted it finished for last night, but I couldn't get the binding finished during the day (read- too much nagging for food etc)

I'm not happy, of course- the turquoise squares have run! I think I dyed them, a while ago now. Some of the orange has run a bit too. Oh, well, we'll see what it looks like after a few more washes! Oh, the backing is blue chenille, as in the last post.

Have to show off this funny bent needle- it had no help making it this shape, I promise!

And a little nostalgia- the first quilt I made my baby, before I knew it was a girl. All cross stitched by me, then sewn on the old Janome. Polar fleece backing. Lots of baby spew on this quilt, there was!

Mermaids Galore

I really fell in love with this fabric when it first came out at Spotty, it was full price then, so I only got 1/2 a metre of 3 colors. Now that everyone wants lunch bags in this fabric, and I've run out, I thought it was over!

lay-byd at Sth Melb store

to be made into these!

Phew, my customers will be happy, and more fun for me to sew with!

out and about

A bit of out and about crafting this weekend. A visit to Castlemaine, Daylesford and of course, Daylesford Bazaar. Oh, yes, Lark too. A few of my pencil rolls are left, as run and snap them up!
Even Little Miss loves this shop- "there are just so many cute things here, mum!" She said loudly. Then she wondered why someone told her she was cute!
I pick up these beauties....

and the bedspread on the left. The one on the right is from Savers a few weeks ago, $5.99 for a Queen size one. The one of the left is double for $25 (reduced from $50!) So 2 for $30, I think!

We picked up a couple of cards and this book- better late than never! Heading over to
Curlypop's tomorrow to get her to autograph it for me haha

Had to go to Spotlight- another post on the mermaid fabric coming up! But look what i found- chook fabric! $6 a metre. wouldn't they make great soft toys? or a chook stop? Endless possibilities! My friend's mum loves these, and I'd love to make her something, as she was so good to Little Miss. All depends if I'm good enough to be spoken to again, I suppose!
Also got one of these- my first craft was this, and Little Miss thought she'd give it a try-
she will have to get in quick! It's fun!

Happy week of crafting!

Flea Market Finds

Joining in again this week, found these little cuties for $1 each at the oppy Friday afternoon.

They've even made it on the wall by today, unheard of in this house!
