Loving this picture of me

Sunday, June 28, 2009

It's all about me!

Ooh, getting excited only 6 sleeps till a whole weekend of sewing at Sewjourn. As I should be gathering projects to take, I was a bit naughty and started something new- but finished it at least! It's my new sewing tote! I used a piece of Inkjet Canvas, and printed the little girls picture of herself as a guinea pig, which I then covered with vinyl.

Some vintage sheeting for a lining....

and a matching purse for things and stuff (very important things and stuff, aren't they?)

Inspiration was from here and here. Thank you!

And another little bag, pre made, was embellished.

Phew, better go sort out those projects for Sewjourn
!

Let's go shopping!

Bright, funky pencil rolls...or crayon...or texta.

Ready to be topstitched and put in the shop tomorrow.

Giveaway time

I don't think I mentioned it earlier, but I participated in a swap of sorts a while ago- over here.
Now is your chance to own this, and heaps of other goodies- a GIVEAWAY! Over here, and if you spread the word, you get more entries.

Swaps and stuff

The Polka Dot Swap has been huge fun, I'm about to send my parcel off, so can't post a spoiler pic, but look what I received today- gorgeous, isn't she? Little Miss and I squabbling over her at the moment. Thanks GB! (Don"t you think she looks like Katie Holmes? GB, not my doll!).

I got this groovy mag today. Here's my friend Fi's stuff- does she ever stop? Here as well.... (she made Pepper!)

And on a different page, completely different article- my phone cover! Well, an I-Pod/ i phone cover, does mine nicely in chenille. Hmm... this is becoming a habit.

So, technically I have SAVED money by buying the magazine, as I have MADE a phone cover, rather than BUYING one- makes sense to me!
And I have all those things to make with buttons!

they are a changin'

Busy busy times. You blink and they grow up. Making her own lunch seems inevitable, it still makes me miss my little baby, but loving the grown up girl emerging! Lunch Sunday and breakfast Monday (for herself and the little boy I mind -toast). Have to get used to holes in the butter.

Making more labels. Ones for every occasion, I hope. Wow, never thought that would happen!
And growing so fast! After a few new pairs of pants, needed more tops- an old size 8 pj top form the oppy cut down beautifully to about a 6, leaving the cuffs, facings and buttonholes attached, and easy hour.

Grouchy dreams everyone!

Late night shopping

Was having a busy night in tracing patterns, ironing etc, when I glanced at Ebay and found these great buys. All from the same shop, here. In my (spending) Paypal account I had a bit of money, so treated myself with this, this and this. I think the bag will be one of my Sewjourn projects, or will make it to take up there, as it is a weekend away. I'll look at the fabric for a bit before chopping up- I'm thinking bibs or the like for my Made It shop. Any suggestions?

Things you learn...

I went to a conference for work today (yes, Saturday, I paid to go somewhere on my day off!). But if I hadn't gone I never would have seen this....

Cool, huh?

Another weekend draws to a close....

Well, another jam packed weekend, with lots of cool stuff done, and jamming heaps in. After a huge cleaning up session, Little Miss and I hosted the Thornbury Craft Bonanza at our house yesterday, where we crafted and chatted with all the best bloggers of course (haha).
Little Miss had the best time, and even scored a little pressie off Tinniegirl- it hasn't left her side, and is in her pj pocket as she sleeps!

Sunday morning saw us in the city bright and early (before Clegs or Lincraft were even open! Thanks to this great blog, I'd found out about the State Library' free activities, and we went to the Storytelling, learning about Batman, Ned Kelly and Freddo Frogs. Don't ask!

It was interactive and energetic, lots of stairs and the kids adored it. Head over here to find out more things on.

After that, we headed to our favourite Yum Cha, Shark Fin, for late lunch. I was asked four times by the same little person why there were so many Chinese people in there! And it was actually about 50/50 when we were there. A bit cultural discussion ensued, few, I was tired.

We managed to get back to Clegs (beautiful stuff) and Lincraft (city store amazing, so much craft stuff!). Yarn sales at both, but be warned they don't open until 11am and 12noon respectively on a Sunday. Officeworks also came up with the goods- my $3.99 vintage Dymo labeller has moved into the 00"s with funky new tape! They still have the standard blue, red and bottle green, but why would you? The clear is cool, too.

Can you believe it? I forgot about the Designers Market on in Fed Square boohoo. But as I nearly fell asleep on the train home (5 stops) I needed my Nana nap when I got home. Next time.

Nervous....

I always remind myself it is not the finished product, but the journey along the way....and I have learnt. Oh, yes, a 'make up as you go' pattern and the pic of a finished product in mind and...well, this it it (in 5 pics or less).
Prerequisite fuzzy slippers....

Hammer and nails....

Putting studs in...notice the stuff up?

Matching blankie

And lots of labels!

Ok, so I have learnt:

Lots of layers mean domestic sewing machines DO crack the shits occasionally.

Lots of pics before hand will remind you of how it's meant to look at the end.

Always check to recipient likes animal print (Bam-Bam!).

Make sure there is enough fabric for the matching top.

Plan for babysitting the weekend you want to finish this.

Relax and enjoy it! Remember the old one? Could I do worse?

It is back to it's owner this arvo, looking forward to her response!

Edit: She loved it! Now onto the hood.

My giveaway

The time has come, to help celebrate Sewn launching, I had my own little giveaway. Well, not so little, this time I had 5 entries. Little Miss was procrastinating about being in bed, so I grabbed her and legitimely had a draw....

Yay, a winner, I was laughing and she couldn't work out why.

Either click on the pic, or read here- CURLYPOPS!!

Me off laughing at the irony! Thanks to everyone who entered, and congratulations Cam!

New jeans

I bought a new pair of jeans yesterday- ($20 reduced from $99, so not op shop, but not full price either). Hmm, don't know. I like my skinny leg, tight jeans, but like a change too.

Lots of pocket detail..... a bit retro? I can't quite decide.

Murray was quite amused by the goings on, here he is mid-jump!

I Heart....

Jemma (I didn't know I needed one till I got it)

Making bias binding

Oh, she should at the top of the list, really.

Good night!

here's the story....

Lots has been happening, and each time I went to post, I was lost for words, and the pics kept piling up! So here is my historical record of a weekend...well, half so far, thanks Queenie!
I did a quick run in to Savers Sat morning just in case there was some new chenille- AND THERE WAS! Pale pink, and pink and white lines. Also a few metres of leopard print flannellette, and stripy sheets.

A cool little pack, from GAP. Think I'll use the transfers somewhere else, the tights only need a few.

We then headed over to the Substation market in Newport. Little Miss waited patiently.....

for this,

the best face painting I've seen! People asked me if she'd been to a dance recital!

We also dropped in to the Yarraville Market, where i was too busy talking to take pics. We saw these guys, and had lots of chats.
Once home, I finished off a bit of redecorating that's dragging on- finally have all the clothes away. I think this child has too many clothes!! PS I got the 2 hanging shelves at different times- the white was $9.99 at Salvo's, and the blue $10 new at Kmart. Go figure.

Dinner was a yummy winter concoction

And the bag is finished! Took it for a test run today- great size, but not happy with the strap, needs a bit of tweaking.

The leopard print has been used already to be used on the pram

So now off to finish some sewing on the pram, continue washing and drying, and think up more things to keep me busy.
PS I jumped onto Sandra's blog and was directed to this little guy- he's pretty cool

200 posts!

Wow, I feel REALLY old now. Nearly a year of blogging, is that blogging too much? Oh, well, it's my blog so who cares really.
Anyhoo, here is a few bargains I grabbed today- from left to right- $1, $1, 2m for $4 and 2m for $10 (is it just me or is this a bit Amy Butlerish?)

Oh, with 20% off each item, it was all a bit of a bargain really. Thanks, Spotlight!

A bit of cuteness

was in my mailbox when I got home. How sweet is this? My own little pincushion and a ?fat quarter? I saw ? because it has the most beautiful origami sort of folding, I don't want to ruin it! I'll just keep it folded until I make MYSELF something with it.

Thanks, Jemma, you're awesome! What a cool game! I want to do one too! I haven't got an official button yet, but I want to send on the love and PAY IT FORWARD, so please leave a comment and sign up so I can get makin'.
